Dr. Thomas Malcolm brings nearly 25 years of combined experience in genetic transcriptional regulation of virally infected human cells and human cancers, endonuclease gene editing of infectious disease (HIV, HBV, and HSV), chimeric antigen receptor therapeutic development, targeted delivery of therapeutic biomolecules, and extracellular vesicle science to the executive team of Caravan Biologix Inc., a company he founded and where he serves as the Chair and Chief Scientific Officer. Caravan Biologix is developing its proprietary CT Nano-BioSphere platform, a novel class of AI-designed, CAR-targeted nanovesicles that directly treat solid tumor cancers while also serving as an off-the-shelf delivery system for genes, gene editors, and other therapeutic payloads across a broad range of human diseases.
Dr. Malcolm also serves on the executive team of Porcine Therapeutics Inc., a multi-national company he co-founded in 2019 dedicated to developing vaccines for protecting and treating swine from economically devastating viruses such as African Swine Fever Virus and Swine Influenza Virus.
Throughout his career, Dr. Malcolm has successfully raised nearly $25 million USD for biotechnology companies, guiding them from early and conceptual stages through critical funding rounds. His strategic vision and fundraising prowess have been instrumental in positioning these companies for success and growth.
In addition to his executive roles, Dr. Malcolm was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Cila Therapeutics Inc., located in Boston, MA, a company developing inhaled therapies for the treatment of a rare genetic disorder, Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), and late-stage SARS-CoV-2 hydrofluidic lung infections. He also serves as a scientific advisor and former CSO for BioMark Diagnostics Inc., a company developing metabolomic diagnostics in Vancouver, Canada, and a member of the US Board of Directors for Gylden Pharmaceuticals in the United Kingdom. He also serves as a Science Advisor for the Hippocrates Opportunities Fund, headquartered in New York, NY.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Malcolm founded Criterion BioScience Research Group in 2012, a life sciences advisory group focused on emergent biotechnologies. He has also served as a Senior Biochemist at Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics and has filled multiple executive roles as CEO, COO, and CSO throughout his career.
Dr. Malcolm has published his work on viruses and cancers in high-impact journals and is an inventor on numerous patents. He earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, and continued his studies as a postdoctoral fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY.
